Leadership Thought:
This October, we celebrate 30 years of God’s faithfulness. On October 23, 1994, Pastor Norman Nakanishi followed God's call and took the risk to leave what was comfortable to start Pearlside Church with the vision of reaching people with the Gospel. What began as one small group meeting in a bank lobby eventually grew into a thriving, multi-generational, multi-congregational church family that planted churches in Hawaii and beyond.

The mission of Pearlside has always been to reach the unreached, make disciples, and equip leaders to make a difference. From the very start, the heart of Pearlside has been exemplified in the phrase, “Each One, Reach One.” From our humble beginnings, we’ve seen incredible moves of God, lives changed, and the Kingdom expanded through all of our faithful serve teams and amazing small group leaders.

Gratitude for the Past, Faith for the Future:

  • Grateful for what God has done.
We have so much to be grateful for as we have all been impacted by the church and have seen countless lives transformed here in Hawaii and around the world. This gratitude should compel us to continue to live generously in anticipation of what God will do in even more lives in the next 30 years and beyond.

  • Faith for what God will do next.
Our prophetic word is to be an “apostolic training center” that trains leaders and plants churches around the world. As we look to the future, we know that the next 30 years will be even greater through all of us.

Investing in the Next 30 Years.
“You will be enriched in every way so that you can be generous on every occasion, and through us your generosity will result in thanksgiving to God.” (2 Corinthians 9:11 NIV)

God’s vision for Pearlside requires that each believer live generously. As leaders, we must inspire and lead people to continue the mission of “Each One, Reach One” by living generously with our time, talents, and resources.

Practical Ways to Live Generously:

  • Giving of our time:
The investment of our time by serving in church ministries, small groups, and outreach in the community are acts of worship and powerful contributions to God’s Kingdom. We all live busy lives; however, we should choose to make time for the things that are most important.

  • Giving of our talents:
God has uniquely gifted each of us for His purpose. We are called to use our talents to serve others in the community and in the church. When we share our talents with others, we will experience joy in our lives as we live with purpose bringing joy to others through the impact of our service.

Giving of our treasure:
Financial resources are essential to expand the reach of the Kingdom of God. When we give, we are investing in God's Kingdom to reach more people and establish more churches locally, nationally, and globally. Although we may not always see the impact of our giving, God does. He rewards those who are faithful and ensures that it will bear fruit.
